Alexandre Liberato is pleased to present "COURAGE NOT TO FIGHT," a solo exhibition at his STUDIO/GALLERY in Friedrichshain, Berlin, running from September 12 to 15, 2024, during Berlin Art Week. This exhibition introduces a new body of work that explores the intricate notions of masculinity, vulnerability, and transformation through twelve new interdisciplinary artworks encompassing painting, textile art, and sculpture.

The exhibition delves into a contemplative journey through unapologetic and mesmerizing surfaces that challenge traditional perceptions of masculinity, creating a space that rejects domination and violence while embracing sensitivity and interior care. The title, "COURAGE NOT TO FIGHT," encapsulates this ethos, proposing a redefinition of strength and resilience. Liberato employs a variety of materials including acrylic primers and paint, natural pigments, and sewing techniques to create layered, structured, tactile surfaces that embody the artist's exploration of these themes. The large-scale pieces, such as "Men Are Made For War" engage the viewer both visually and emotionally, fostering a deep, reflective experience.
A highlight of the exhibition is the darkroom projection of the video “SEWING AS A METAPHOR OF CARE," filmed and edited by Filippo M. Ceredi. This video offers an intimate glimpse into Liberato's creative process, capturing the act of sewing as a metaphor for connectivity, care, and the passage of time. The film delves into the artist's meditative and laborious practice, where each stitch represents a moment of dedication, revealing the hidden layers of thought and effort that underpin each piece. It underscores the tactile nature and conscious vulnerability of Liberato's artistic journey, emphasizing the transformative power of art as a medium for personal and collective reflection and invites viewers to engage deeply with the underlying themes of the exhibition, enhancing their understanding of the intricate connections between material, time, and emotional resonance.

Liberato’s approach is one of meticulous layering and synthesis, in which every stitch and colored stain carries weight and significance. The interplay between the manual and the abstract, the visible and the hidden, invites viewers to uncover the deeper narratives woven into each piece.
