Alexandre Liberato Gallery is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition presenting a body of work developed by Liberato over the past two years, spanning a wide range of media, including painting, drawing, photography, and video.

The exhibition takes its title from Liberato's most recent series of works NEW HEROES, delving into his project that focuses on geometry and the body, creating an abstract inclusive space to exist - to contemplate the sublime - what he refers to as ”a sensibility that touches everyone equally, transforming them from the inside”.

The earliest works presented here were initiated during the imposed lockdown in the beginning of 2020, a period of inner reflection and creative development reflected in the vast dark space occupied by fluid bodies. A starting point that would later result in what the artist considers a notable artwork METAPHOR OF THE VACUUM, 2022. Both a process research culmination and a subject to continue exploring in future projects.

"Through my work, I seek a conscious Emancipation, not limited to LGBTQ+ people, but rather an Emancipation of masculinity from toxic outdated paradigms.” - Alexandre Liberato

In Liquid Modernity, the philosopher Zygmunt Bauman states that "change is the only permanence and uncertainty the only certainty" and that nowadays "to be Modern means an infinity of improvement, with no "final state” insight and none desired". A statement that Liberato expresses in his work by exploring a new way of understanding the role of the human being, society, and their relationship with the environment, one that evokes the will to look forward, to hope anew. This fluidity which, rather than destroying rigid forms of old patriarchal thinking, wants to build an elastic understanding of the world, intends to claim an art where genderless sensitivity and emancipated beauty hold a primary role.

Alexandre Liberato (*1981, Lisbon) is a Portuguese visual artist based in Berlin. He holds a BA (Hons) in Architecture from the Technical University of Lisbon (2005) and attended CREART Labs in Barcelona (2017).
