SEWING AS A METAPHOR OF CARE

Video 1920x1080, 8’43”, color, sound, 2024
Filmed and edited by Filippo M. Ceredi

The act of sewing unfolds as a quiet meditation, transforming simple gestures into statements on care, resilience, and memory. For Liberato, sewing is more than a manual process within his creative practice; it is a symbolic act that bridges vulnerability and strength. Each stitch carries intention, inviting viewers to consider how acts of repair and mending connect the artist to the object, and by extension, to layers of personal and collective experience. The video captures this process, grounding the viewer in a deeper understanding of the work as a whole. In this sense, sewing becomes an art of connection, a way of uniting fragments of time, space and the self. For the "new man," sewing raises fundamental questions about masculinity and offers the promise of new realities that embrace care and reject the need for dominance.
